Sod Installation

Step 1.

When installing new lawnthe first step is removing the top layer. At PayPerCut, we suggest removing at least the top 1.5 -2 inches and replacing with premium top dressing soil. Top soil can be used but results are much better with a richer soil. Next roll lawn to ensure grade is now even. Adjust grade where needed.

Step 2.

Next you will want to apply a rooting fertilizer prior to laying the sod, it will help to get the grass to catch much sooner. When laying sod use a knife to cut out the unneeded pieces. When laying your sod it is very important to ensure no seams are over lapping one another or curled in, this will cause immediate burns in your lawn. Additionally it is good to ensure the ends of the rolls are not matching up side by side to allow for better rooting. Lightly hand tamp all seems and roll. Once completed over seed seams.

Step 3.

The final step is the most important by far. Replacing your lawn is a waste if it is not watered thoroughly and consistently.

When watering fresh sod you want to ensure that is is soaking wet morning and night. Avoid watering during peak sun hours as grass can burn.

Spring and fall tend to be the easiest times for maintaining new grass as a lot of precipitation falls and not too hot of weather. Maintaining daily watering on new sod for a minimum of the first 3 weeks is crucial in the outcome of your lawn.
